Yesterday I thinned out the soundboard to approx 1.7mm (will be a tad thinner again after final sanding), then I marked out the soundhole position.
I would still like to make a tile rosette for this build, but tried out another idea today on some scrap wood - not entirely sure about the results, I plan to use
a dark wood for the stems, and spalted beech for the leaves (to tie in with natural colours/features of the Yew wood), will see how it turns out before deciding :)

12/2/2015 - More leaf inlay
Trying out another possible idea for the rosette and purfling inlays - Woods used were Canary wood, Bloodwood, Padauk and Mahogany.
A dark epoxy filler would look best so, I will experiment with more lighter wood variations as well :)
I will take more care shaping the leaves, and make the leaf stems thinner too.

Think I may have worked out the rosette design :)
Based on my previous experiments with the purfling leaves, I made some larger versions today and, with the use of a handsaw, some needle files,
self adhesive board and my bandsaw ... this is the result .... ta da .. !
(Woods used are Canary wood, Padauk and Zebrano).

Decided on the leaf inlay for the rosette, and routed out the channel on the Yew soundboard.
Used a cherry/maple/cherry purfling for the inner and outer lines, and will eventually use a dark epoxy filler to fill all the gaps .
I also fitted the red leaf inlay at the bottom of the soundboard :)
